1.Contract Senior Layout Artist / Senior Cinematic Artist

We are looking for a contract layout artist / cinematic artist to help us out on a fantastic game cinematics project, which is based on a popular IP. The project will last between 14 and 18 months and will begin this summer (June – August).

About Us:

metricminds is specialized in the creation of in-engine cutscenes for game developers. We use Unreal Engine and other engines and work directly with the tools and assets of our clients. Our studio is located in Frankfurt, Germany and was founded in 2001. Our clients include 2K Games, EA, Epic, Guerrilla Games, THQ Nordic and more.

Objective:

Using our client’s assets and taking their creative brief (script, storyboard, etc.), you will work with our team to create stunning and enticing cutscenes for a AAA game. You will start by blocking out scenes, recording or bringing in mocap and then iterating your way through to the final, polished cutscene layout. We are putting a strong focus on storytelling while keeping our client’s objectives for each cutscene in mind.

Responsibilities:

* Help drive the development of AAA quality cinematics / cutscenes
* Design and create shots from Scripts and / or Storyboards, using cinematic know-how and language to tell a story
* Block out rough sequences which will later receive animation of characters, props and cameras
* Use real-life camera behavior to enhance the camera’s role in story telling
* Work with a director and a team of artists to create high quality video sequences on tight timelines

Requirements:

* minimum 3 years of professional experience in the field
* Experience using Motion Capture to tell a story and an inherent understanding of animation timing
* Understanding of shot composition, framing, cinematography, editing, and flow
* Very good skills in camera placement and animation
* Good showreel showcasing animated works you have done
* Able to work well in a team and to lead others
* Sport a Problem-solving attitude
* Willing to relocate to Frankfurt, Germany for the duration of the project
* Good English Speaking Skills
* Able to prioritize and multi-task
* Able to self-organize and strong attention to detail

Preferred:

* Professional experience using motionbuilder

3.Contract Senior Real-time Lighting Artist / Senior Engine Artist

We are looking for a contract senior Engine / Lighting Artist to help us out on a fantastic game cinematics project in UE4, which is based on a popular IP. The project will last between 14 and 18 months and will begin this summer (July – August).

Objective:

Using our client’s lighting scheme and color palette, you will take unlit scenes and turn them into stunning shots that reflect the emotional intention of the scene. You will be placing lights and Particle FX to achieve this, but there may be other tricks in your hat that will be needed to achieve the desired result. In doing all this, you will keep a close eye on resources to ensure that the scene will still run smoothly in engine.

Responsibilities:

* Work with a team to give cinematic sequences in UE4 an amazing look by applying lights to the scene and to the characters
* Place and tweak effects
* Ensure consistency in mood and look across multiple shots and scenes, based on feedback from the Director and Supervisor
* Work with and communicate with Layout artists and animators to highlight their work and to help drive the client’s vision

Requirements:

* Industry Experience doing Realtime Lighting (Unreal preferred)
* Familiarity with color theory
* Natural comprehension of light and shadow
* Understanding of composition and the ability to enhance mood by lighting
* Experience in lighting of Characters
* Good Portfolio showcasing past works in lighting and placing effects
* Able to work well in a team
* Willing to relocate to Frankfurt for the duration of the project
* Good English Speaking Skills
* Able to prioritize and multi-task

Preferred:

* Knowledge of photography principles and image correction techniques
* Professional Experience with Unreal Engine 4
* Strong technical Background with the ability to solve problems if they arise
* Experience with set dressing final polishing of shots

4.Contract Animator

* Animate characters, vehicles and props using motion capture and keyframe animation techniques
* Block out rough sequences which will later receive animation of characters, props and cameras
* Work with a director and/or supervisor, as well as a team of fellow animators to create high quality animation sequences on tight timelines

* Proven key frame expertise and practiced skills
* Experience working with motion capture data

5.Technical Animator / Artist

metricminds is looking for a passionate Technical Animator specializing in Motionbuilder, Maya or 3D Studio Max with a firm grasp of animation pipelines, workflows and rigging.

Candidates will be expected to provide input and direction for the future development of our workflows / tools to keep metricminds at the cutting edge. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years’ games industry experience in a similar role and must have used Motionbuilder / Maya in that role – possessing a strong working knowledge of Python.

Responsibilities:

– Interact closely with animators and other TA / TDs to maintain and improve our proprietary animation tools.
– Create and support tools that improve our animation creation/editing workflows.
– Work with the animation team to define, create and maintain the animation pipeline
– Collaborate effectively with other team disciplines.
– Bring innovation and resolution to technical problems and challenges throughout production – from content creation all the way into to the game or cutscene.
– Demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of console development
– Assist character artists with skinning and rigging of characters, including setups for facial animation.
– Support and improve the integration of animation assets from Motionbuilder/Maya/Max to game engines (Unreal, Unity, CryEngine)

Qualifications:

– 2+ years of applicable professional experience as a TA/TD/tools programmer
– Experience with motion capture pipelines
– You have excellent skills with MotionBuilder and additional knowledge of Vicon Blade/Shogun or Optitrack Motive
– Games industry experience is preferred
– Python programming is a prerequisite for the role
– Experience using Motionbuilder, Maya or 3d Studio Max as a TA/TD
– Knowledge of facial rigging is a definite plus
– Character skinning and physics simulation setup
– Experience in other scripting and programming languages (Maxscript, C# / C++, etc.) is a big plus.
